Welcome to the online home of the Muletones, an old-time stringband of the Chihuahuan desert.  We appreciate you stopping by.

Vintage Wines and More this September

Hi folks!  The Muletones will be replacing broken strings and changing tuner batteries, getting ready for a pretty busy September.

Last month we played the Mesilla contra dance, which was a great bit o' fun.

Now, we are looking forward to playing at Vintage Wines in Mesilla at about 8 PM on September 12.  The following weekend we'll be playing a doubleheader at Cornudas Cafe in Cornudas, TX.  That's not as far away as you might think from El Paso and Las Cruces, and indeed it is one of the nearest venues to Muletones HQ.  Cornudas is just east of El Paso on US highway 62/180 -- aka Montana Avenue in El Paso.  There'll be more information forthcoming about the doings at Cornudas, and we encourage you to make that scenic trip.

Saturday, April 18 -- Vintage Wines in Mesilla

Get out of the wind and onto the patio of Vintage Wines in Mesilla this Saturday evening.  Sample the wine, the tapas, maybe even a cigar.  The Muletones will seek to augment all that olfactory awesomeness and gustatory goodness with something aurally enlivening.

How about that... three out of five senses indulged on one evening out.

Hey, that's the best we can do.  We refuse to touch members of the audience; we're sure not much to look at (except for one of us).

Memorial Day Weekend at the Weed Store

The Muletones are pleased to be playing Saturday, May 23, 2015, for the Memorial Day Weekend celebration at the Weed Store in beautiful Weed, NM!  Smoked brisket (that's all that gets smoked in Weed), a craft fair, and old-time music among the tall pines.  For more information about the event, or if you'd like to secure a table to peddle your wares, you can contact Mike at the Weed Store at, well, mike@theweedstore.biz.

Weed, NM, is in the Sacramento Mountains -- just a hair over 100 miles from Las Cruces and under 130 miles from El Paso.  An easy day trip and a whole other biome!

Johnny Florez Fundraising Event Features the Muletones

On Saturday, March 21, the Muletones were pleased to participate in a fundraiser in aid of Las Cruces musician Johnny Florez.  Johnny, 86, had gotten in a tight spot with property taxes and utility bills and was at immediate risk of having his house auctioned.  Thankfully, the various fundraising efforts including this online donation page created by filmmaker D. John Young have successfully raised sufficient funds to secure Johnny's home.  Any additional money raised will be used for necessary home improvements.

More on this story and the March 21 fundraising event appeared in the Las Cruces Sun-News.
